Gaber Šilc was born in 2005 in Ljubljana, Slovenia – a country deeply shaped by its mountains and outdoor culture.

From the beginning, he loved being outside: exploring, moving, and testing himself against the terrain. That pull toward nature and sport was there long before the camera.

His love for images and creativity started early too. He drew constantly, built with LEGO, and disappeared into documentaries, National Geographic, YouTube, and open-world games with landscapes worth getting lost in. His father had an old Canon pocket camera and would take photographs whenever he could, giving Gaber his first exposure to a camera as something more than a toy.

Nobody in his family made a career out of creating, but everyone did it anyway. His grandfather photographed. His father photographed. His grandmother painted. Today, his father serves in the military, while his mother works in the camper and outdoor industry. One parent rooted in discipline, the other in travel and the outdoors. Gaber grew up between the two.

At nine, an old iPad opened up YouTube and LEGO stop-motion videos, and he was hooked. Every day after school became drawing, building, watching films, and exploring new worlds through a screen.

At seventeen, he got his first real camera. That was the turning point. Photography came first, followed by the craft of filmmaking and the deeper pursuit of storytelling.

Today, Gaber is building his career as a filmmaker and photographer focused on extreme sports, adventure, and human stories. Alongside his portfolio work, he is developing his commercial work across photography, filmmaking, branded content, product work, and campaigns. Building both the creative and technical skills needed to work professionally with outdoor and other brands.

His long-term ambition is to work with athletes, leading outdoor and adventure brands and other brends while creating films and photographs that go beyond simply documenting an athlete or environment.

He is currently studying Multimedia Production at Algebra Bernays University in Zagreb.

Outside the camera, he is an active athlete across climbing, mountaineering, hiking, cycling, skiing, ski touring, swimming, and road and trail running – often exploring the same terrain and activities he photographs.

He speaks Slovenian as his first language, along with Croatian and English.

Every shoot, every climb, every edit is part of the same pursuit: building work strong enough to stand alongside the best in the world.
